There is a collection of course material in Files called
ACADstuff.zip. It's got some holes in it, but the price is right. The
material was originally written to be used in a classroom with
lectures and an engineering drawing text.

As far as going with AutoCAD...that's argument is like talking
favorite brand of something or another. AutoCAD has some good and bad
points - it's price is usually enough to chase off some people, but
it's relatively easy to learn and there are other programs that are
very similar to it (like IntelliCAD). AutoCAD also has one of the
better packages for 2D drawing and dimensioning, but has serious
limitations in 3D.
