Hi Fogassa,
This is a project that I am in the midst of right now.
the ball screws ar the exact same size as the acme screws that are there now, so machining them to fit is no problem. There is enough room height wise for the ballnuts with no problem, but the are a bit wide for the saddle, by about 1/2 inch. I modified on nut by cutting off 1/4" from each end and milled the top of the saddle so that it would fit. The big problem right now is that when cutting off 1/4" from each end of the nut, you cut into the mounting holes. Drilling new mounting holes is not an option as the nut is hardened to C60 so another method of mounting is in order. I have not decided yet but some sort of clamping arrangement is in order. For the Y axis things look much easier, I have not started on it yet but there seems to be plenty of room for the nut with just minor milling for the nut base. I'm not sure what I have gotten my self into, but I am having Fun doing it thou

Subject: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Grizzly minimill to cnc?
From: fogassa@...
Hi All!!
I've a sherline mill retrofited to cnc,and becouse there is no way of upgrad it
to ballscrews on x/y axis(the backlash increases very fast)I've think in buying the minimill from Grizzly and upgrade it to zero lash ballscrews.
Has anyone tried that? I'm thinking in use 16mm zerolash ballnuts from Techno Isel they are about 2 1/2" wide x 1" long x 1" high, and costs around $ 77,00.
If anyone owns the MInimill could you tell me if there space to put ballscrews on any axis?
Thank's
Fogassa.
