For all the work that you're describing my favorite would be the
Sherline headstock with the DC variable speed motor. I would add to that
a 10,000 RPM pulley set. The half-inch mill might be pushing a little
bit and I don't believe they make a holder for half-inch shank, but I
know people have bored out the 3/8" holder. I have used this setup with
a 3/8" endmill and it works just fine. The small stuff at 10,000 RPM
cuts great. I regularly machine aluminum using his 1/16 inch carbide end
mill at 10 inches per minute.
