I have not used these items but reading the connection data, the only difference I can see it the 10 pin version will accept 9-32 V and I expect it has an on board regulator, whereas the 8 pin version
expects a 5 Volt supply.
The 10 Pin version should handle very long cables.
Pity they did not publish a real data sheet, can't glean much information form pin out descriptions.
