Dave,


Another major advantage of rack, belt or chain drive for woodworking
is that the optimium cutting speed for timber can be 20 to 30 feet per
minute (depending on cutters etc). Racks, belts and chain drives can
comfortably reach these high speeds. But ballscrew and leadscrew
setups really aren't great for such high feedrates.




Personally I prefer chain or belt drive to a rack but thats more a
matter of personal choice than anything else.
