Well here is what I did and it worked ok except for the dumb
mistake with the old INI file.

Note. I am A linux amateur. procede at your own risk

1)Go to /usr/local/nist/emc and copy everything you want to
keep to a different directory or floppy

2)Download the new tar file to /usr/local/nist

3)untar using tar -xzvf emc-25-feb-2000.tgz

4)type ./clean (I'm not sure this step is required but it will
clean out the emc directory for a new install I think)

5)type ./install

6)go make a sandwich while it compiles

7)Make changes to new ini file comparing it with the saved one.

8)Get the emc-25-feb-2000.txt file for instructions on how to
use the freqmot method for running steppers. It is well
worth it.
