I bought a bunch of RSF linear encoders type MSA654 two weeks ago and
haven't found much electrical data on them yet.
The alternative is to open one up and figure out what's inside (can't be too
complicated, I saw an LM339 living in there) but it would be very nice to
get hold of the original data.
Anything useful is welcomed!
And while I'm lured into de-lurking anyway, maybe a short intro would be
nice..
I joined this list some time ago out of interest in mechanical stuff,
machines and their combination with electronics.
I'm a pure electronics hardware guy myself, though the hard truth of life
forces us all to live with the aspects of applied software..
Now I finally took the step to set up my own small company, I'm investing
the little money I have in some tools for development and prototyping.
The thought of a free and reliable software package like EMC was very
stimulating for me to try and build some CNC controlled machines myself.
First project will be a stepper driven PCB drill, built around the housing
and slides of an old copying machine.
After that follows my old, simple little lathe and then a gantry mill (or is
it a router, I just can't figure out what the difference between the two is)
with a 14" x 14" table, built around some very nice and heavy ball slide
assemblies with 20mm ball screw drives.
The lathe and mill will be servo driven; since I can't find any surplus
servo amps for little money, these will also be home made as well as the
A/D's.
Seeing the variety of projects others in this list and on various web sites
have tackled gave me the confidence to take this route, there are some very
simple contraptions around that seem to perform wonderfully in their own
applications.
It seems that for making 3D designs, there is no share- or freeware
available to convert the drawings to G-code and one has to buy something
like Vector or Bobcad .
Is this a correct observation?
I try to find my way through all the available info, but it's easy to get
lost in the sheer abundance of very interesting links (talking about a
luxury problem).
Anyway, it is very interesting and stimulating to read about building your
own CNC equipment in this list.
Having said this, I'll just shut my little door and go back into lurking
mode until another pressing matter comes up.
Thanks to all who put their valuable time and knowledge into this list.
Greetings,
Mike
(Netherlands).
