RE: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] US Digital linear strip...

Here is how I mounted the usdigital linear strip.
I took a length of 1/4" aluminum keystock and cut it to length plus an
additional amount to suit installation.
I then took a length of 2 mil double sided tape (don't ask me where I
got it. I had a roll of it for years) and covered one side leaving the
backing strip on. Using an exacto knife I trimmed the excess tape to the
edge of the 1/4" keystock. I rubbed the backing strip until it was a
smooth even contact with the keystock. Then I peeled back the backing
tape and turned the keystock on a large flat surface so the tape on the
side edge was now vertical.
Observing that the back edge of the mylar linear strip was down and
starting at the point I wanted it, I rolled the linear strip out making
contact with the thin double side tape. I did it this way to ensure that
the back of the keystock and the back of the linear strip was even.
I then rubbed the mylar strip only in the area of contact ( avoid
rubbing the encoder lines)with the double sided tape to ensure a good
bond.
Now with the encoder strip mounted on the keystock I ran a thin film of
epoxy glue on the oposite side of the keystock and used that to glue it
to the housing making sure that you use some kind of support to keep the
keystock from bowing.
The mylar strip is so light that the tape will hold it with no problem
for years.
The encodeeer read head is then mounted taking into consideration the
thickness of the key stoch which in my case was .260

I spent about $150 at US Digital on a 36" strip and 3 heads, so I'm
committed to figuring something out. Thanks for the link; it gave me
some good ideas. I'll post pictures of what I come up with. Please
continue the discussion... :-)
