They are good folks. But....
Don't get two excited about these mills. I haven't
seen them, but based on the price alone I have my
doubts about their condition. I've only looked at
manual mills there. Usually any genuine Bridgeport
is priced $1495 or more in mediocre shape, $2995 or
more if in decent shape. The cheapest I've ever
seen there was $995, and that one was missing the
X leadscrew, had a broken Y handwheel and possibly
bent Y leadscrew, and plenty of other problems.
Maybe they got a really good deal on these CNC
machines, or CNC prices run much lower than manual
prices. I know for manual mills, if they are only
asking $1395, the mills are pretty beat.
Ultimately you have to make your own decisions, but
just a heads up - ask lots of questions and/or see
it in person before you plunk down your money.
I'm not implying that McKean is not on the up-and-up.
All of my dealings with them have been very good.
Also, my last visit there was in January, and I wasn't
looking at machines much, mostly tooling. Maybe the
economy has lowered the prices on everything, and
$1395 buys a lot more than it did a year ago.
