No, I'm not sure that the "readers" stop sending data when the display goes
off. Actually, I hope they DON'T stop sending data.

They probably lose a count or two when they do "wake up" from a genuine power
off, and it would be bad to have something set up, then left alone long enough
to allow the readers go to sleep, then lose counts as I resume machining.

So if the electronics stay alive when the LCD is off, that's just fine with
me.

Remember, I'm not powering them via batteries, so I'm not concerned about
power consumption.

Also, it is possible that the readers "steal" power from the SPC lines or
sense the fact that something is connected to the SPC lines. In either case,
the readers may elect to continue sending data so long as there is something
connected up.
