Gecko G340 Input Option Header Setup

I am confused on the input option for a Gecko G340. I am intending
to connect +5 VDC to the common terminal (12) and use the parallel
port pins as sinks. I believe I should set the jumpers to "COMMON
GROUND" as described below in an excerpt from the G340 manual. I
know this has been discussed before, but the word COMMON is
confusing me. Can anyone confirm for me that "COMMON GROUND" is the
correct setting? Thanks! Andy

INPUT OPTION HEADER

The INPUT OPTION HEADER allows the STEP and DIRECTION opto-isolators
to be configured as either common ground or common +5VDC.

If the G340 inputs are driven by a source that has only ground
available, such as a PC parallel port, move the 4 jumpers on the
header so that it looks like the COMMON GROUND setting. Connect the
input driver ground to TERM 12 on the main connector.

If the G340 inputs are driven by open collector transistors or
standard TTL gates, move the 4 jumpers on the header so that it
looks like the COMMON +5VDC setting.
