I don't think the Sun version of LONG ago, on Solaris, ran steppers or used
the parallel port. I suspect that was run with servos on a Galil motion
control card.

I don't think there has EVER been support for EMC on Sun machines under
Linux.

I believe there would be VERY substantial issues in porting the current
Linux
version to a Sun Sparc platform, as the ENTIRE real-time package that
has been used is almost entirely hardware specific to the motherboard
architecture and low-level support hardware of the PCs. It is not really
a CPU architecture issue as much as an interrupt controller, timer, etc.
issue related to the common I/O addresses below 0X100 on the PC.
There is also code that mostly depends on the parallel port bit layout
in its registers.

I've heard rumors of someone running EMC on an Alpha CPU, but the hardware
there is at least somewhat similar to a PC. I don't know if that was
just an
attempt to start a port or a successful port, though.
