Photo to g-code for carving wood

I have been experimenting with several photo to g-code programs:
bmptocnc, imagetogcode, etc. and have not come up with the product
that I want. What I would like to do is convert a photo (deer,
person, fish, etc.) and mill it into a piece of wood (award,
gunstock, etc.) and have it look pretty close to the picture. The
web site at imagetogcode.com show some very nice carvings that I want
my photos to look like. Maybe I do not have my setting or cutting
bit correct. Could someone give me some pointers, software ideas,
and post some photo carving they have done?
thanks
