Cast blocks with linear rails?

Has anyone tried/considered casting blocks with one of the miracle
polymers instead of using the standard bearing blocks with the
rectangular linear rails? I see two advantages to this approach, its
cheaper and the polymer is probably more immune to contamination.
I've also found some cheap rail with no blocks.

Any thoughts?
