Indexing larger work pieces

Doe any one here use a smaller table with a router or plasma cutter
to cut material larger than the table cutting area itself? Is there
a way to index material 8 feet lonk on a 4 foot table for example to
get a seemles piece? If so how do you accomplish it and how accurate
and repeatable is it?
