While I don't have the extremes of weather you do, Record High of 104, and
record low of 24, my garage was usually uncomfortable. The main culprit
was the 16ft metal garage door. It faces Sought east, and is a dark brown
on the outside. While the sun is on it, it would turn into a giant
radiator. I picked up some 2" foil faced foam insulation. I cut it to
size of the panels in the door and forced it into place. Just be careful
you don't split it along the edges. I had planned to duct tape the edges,
but it hasn't been necessary. The results are great. I've added about 150
days a year that I can use the garage without heating it or it being too
hot. It cost me around $100 to do the job, but it was money well
spent. When it's cold, I use a small potable electric heater of around
1200 Watts. Running it for an hour or so will do a great job of making it
comfortable. Next thing is a vent to pull off the fumes and heat buildup
off the ceiling. I had the vent installed in the roof a couple years ago, I
just haven't powered it and plumbed it into my work area yet.
