A .iso file is a bit-for-bit image of an ISO9660 CDROM file system. That said,
you can't just copy it to a CD as a data file and expect it to be bootable.
Most CDROM burning software (not all though) will have an option or menu
choice that says something like "create a cd from an iso", or something to
that effect. If in doubt, read the help for your program. As an example, I
have used Nero Buring ROM (quite a pun...) to do this operation, and I'm
pretty sure Adaptec's CD Creator (or whatever it's called) also has this
capability. HP distributes a program with its CDRW drives that, as far as I
can tell, doesn't have this ability, so you may need to get better software.

As soon as you get Linux running, you'll HAVE better software :) .
