but to the origional poster....

you use what you want of the software. if all you want is X and Y,
just never use Z.

Get any program and start playing around. G-code is so simple once
you know it that all the complexity goes away pretty fast when you
start to use it. I think there are less than 20 g-codes you use 80%
of the time.
