Interpertation of Estop varies. An approximate range of Estop options,
listed in general order of safety, would be:
1) Motion stops from a command source (controller)
2) Motion stops from a power source (drive)
3) Energy source disabled (DC power supply)
4) Zero energy state (also known as ZES), no stored energy, no electrified
components.
Using the software to stop the machine is the minimum. Many individiuals
accept this, but not NFPA or other domestic codes or standards.
European standards tend toward the safest, like item 4. For example,
certain european standards required contactors between the motor and drive
as well as between the drive and power source.

Hi,
When the proper input line (pin) is triggered Mach1 initiates an E-Stop
condition.
a. Is this (software triggered) the norm? I.e. shouldn't an E-Stop be a
physical/mechanical/electrical sort of thing?
b. I have read mention of removing all power when E-Stop is activated and
seen pictures of the Big Red Switch on several controller cabinets. Does
this mean complete removal of all power to the system both AC primary and DC
motor power or one or the other?
Progress is slow... and sometimes in the opposite direction!
