Pro Engineer is giving away a very capable solid modeler. Will
import and export dxf. It is a true parametric modeler so it can be
pretty complex, but the user interface is way better than ProE.
New version 8 at:

I am a Cadkey user and have not done any porduction work on it, but
the price is right and it is not time limited.
