It's pretty difficult to make any recommendations without knowing
what you expect from your system. What 'would work best' depends on
your criteria cost vs performance.

I'm putting US Digital MS23 stepper motors (140 in-oz holding torque)
on my Sherline and using Gecko 201 drives. Add in a power supply and
the list cost for parts alone would be about $700 USD. There are
many other choices in motors, drivers, and power supplies. This was
my choice; there are people who think this was overkill, and those
who'll say that I should have gone for something better.

Parts to add CNC to your mill will start at about $300 and go up to
whatever your wallet will bear. There are many other items to
consider that are accessories to some, and necessities to others,
limit switches, home switches, spindle control, position feedback
from the axes... and the list goes on. I'd keep it simple to start
with, limit and home switches. You might want to read Joe Martin's
CNC Course on the Sherline website. It contains a lot of useful
information, and doesn't push his line of equipment.

There are companies out there that will provide you with a 'ready to
install' kit, but you need to have a good idea of what you want
first. So, make it easy on us. Tell us a little of what you'd like
to use your new mill for. Do you have your eye on a particular
piece of software to drive it?
