Re: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] safe temp for steppers ?

on 2003-08-19 09:14:53 UTC
Tim points out a few realities with steppers, the case temperatures are
often hotter than we are accustomed to. A couple of things come into
play, first is the general lack of a fan and second is the fact that the
windings are often very close to the surface fo the case.

You won't know if your with in a safe temperature range unless you have
the manufactures documentation as this can vary widely. Many drives
allow parameter changes or tunning that can reduce heat generated in the
motor. Since I'm not at all familiar with the Gecko drives, I don't
know if there is much in the way of adjustments to lower heat generation.

Thanks
Dave
