I don't think the model 2000 was available when I bought my setup
around 5 years ago. With this mod I do get 12" of y-axis travel
without needing to reposition the stock.

The lathe conversion is pretty simple. I just have to reposition the
spindle and motor horizontally onto the aluminum base plate. I then
use the existing x,y slides to mount the cutting tool. Being able to
reuse the parts from the mill for the lathe conversion saved a lot
of money.
