I'm back......

hiya all

a while back I was on this list, but had to take a breather...

I'm now a 'web page' member...... so don't expect immediate
replies to queries direct to me.....

I am still insterested in my mini CNC mill project. I am now on the
verge of purchasing a lathe with which I'll be able to make parts.
The last time I tried it I had to borrow a lathe which made my parts
offcenter cos the chuck was loose (one doesn't expect to have to set
the chuck on a lathe, does one?).

anyhow, I'll be browsing the archives (wish I could download the
whole lot as a zip file or such, then I could read it at home on the
laptop at my leasure)

I picked up a big serial daisy wheel printer a few weeks back at the
dump. I noted it had a big stepper you see..... about 4 inches
diameter and 4 inches length, which drove the carriage on .5 inch
ground rods. 200 steps per rev.... I figure this will be enough to
drive my carriage too, with a suitable screw of course

now, the other motor appears to be some sort of servo, it has 4
connections, each at 90 deg to the other, it has an optical encoder
on the back too. this motor drove the daisy wheel directly

the usual smallish stepper on the paper drive is of little interest

I also have the full electronics boards, but no idea if they work.
something was wrong else it would not be on the dump.....

I plan to use a 486dx2/66 running RTlinux and EMC.......
