You mount a slider on one rail. Attach a dial indicator to that slider, and
set it up so it reads the distance between the rails. Slide it along the
rails, and adjust until there is no difference in distance between them.
Now, mount a platform on two sliders, one on each rail. Place a sensitive
level on the platform, and slide it back and forth. If the level changes,
it means that the rails do not lie in the same plane.
