Hi Shawn,
Most switch mode power supplies either have the common floating or connected
to mains earth. Either way it should be safe to connect the commons
together. If you are unsure, connect the commons together through a resistor
or small low voltage light bulb. Turn both supplies on and measure the
voltage across the resistor/bulb. If the voltage is zero or very close to
zero then you are OK. If there is an appreciable voltage(greater the say
0.25V) then the power supplies are incompatible.
