1) I was talking to an acquaintance of mine about 6-9 months ago. He
related a story to me from his colorful past. It seems that he did indeed
crack Surfcam at one time. He even started to pass the hack around and even
to sell it. One day he was visited by a couple of corporate lawyer types in
suits. They made him an offer his wife and children could not refuse. He
divulged the list of clients that had obtained the crack from him, and in
return promised to never, never, never again engage in such behavior, as the
next time the FBI would be making the call. Would you guess if the lawyers
went next to collect the license fee from the customers? (around
$10,000-15,000)
2) I have heard of many instances of the FBI and other law enforcement
agencies participating in sting operations. I encourage everyone in the
group to avoid ANY of these schemes. There is no such thing as a free lunch
and obtaining illegal access to commercial software is no different from
stealing a car or any other theft.
Good luck Bill on controlling this type of posting. On the MMS forum, they
strip out any e-mail or other contact info to make it difficult for these
connections to be made. I would suggest that you strip out Shaun's e-mail
from the archive & any future digests.
