The belt drive from the spindle to the encoder on my lathe is approx 5mm
pitch by about 5mm wide - There is no power being transmitted, so a
lightweight belt is more than sufficient.
It does not need to be a high spec Kevlar reinforced belt - A cheap one will
be enough, as would plastic pulleys (if you can find them...).
