This is not really an EMC issue, its a 'general computing' problem .. The
answer is quit pulling the power from your computer while it is on!! If your
power is that flaky, run with a UPS, but NEVER just pull the power on a PC
(and thats Windows, Linux, Mac .. whatever) because sooner or later, you are
going to end up with a dead machine, as you have already discovered!!

Simply typing 'poweroff' in a console or logging off and selecting 'power
down' are the recommended ways to bring an EMC system to sleep, just killing
the power is most certainly NOT recommended.

Personally I leave the machine running EMC on all the time, with a UPS, and
simply de-power the steppers when I'm not using it .. currently its been on
for nearly 4 months ...

I've seen a couple of people rig their machines up so the emergency stop
killed the computer power ... I have no idea why they did that. none of them
lasted the distance.
