Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, I was "boss" in an organbuilding
factory, which is primarily a woodworking operation. I built a circuit with
a "C.T." (Current Transformer) which is physically about like a rubber donut
with two lead-wires hanging off it. With this surrounding one of the
phase-mains in the "breaker-panel box" feeding all the woodworking machinery, and an
appropriate little relay and contactor following that, turning on ANY
woodworking machine fed from that source would also turn-on the dust-collector. NO
"galvanic connection". With that, the LOWEST-HP machine would turn on the
dust-collector, and it would STAY on as long as one or more w.w. machines was on,
and would go off when the last machine went off. VERY reliable, and this way,
we never had "messes" due to some lazy slob failing to "go over to the
dust-collector switch" before beginning whatever wood-machining operation.
