Matthew,
After comparing benchtop mills, I selected the Taig mill about a year
ago. I purchased it "CNC ready", bought 210 oz Pac-Sci steppers off
e-bay and built a 4 axis controller using Gecko 210's (microstepping
controllers). I'm using TurboCNC ($20).
I'm very happy with this combination. Once the system is calibrated
I've never had a missed step and the axis moves as smoothly as I
could turn by hand. I've never had to adjust the mill.
In the future I will upgrade the spindle/motor as I mainly use very
small endmills and need the higher RPM.
Regards,
Ed Ferguson
