The wheel is going to rotate based upon that part of it that is in
direct contact with whatever it's rolling against. Wrapping that surface
partway around the roller is not going to change the diameter of the
roller. Only changing the radius/diameter is going to alter the
relationship. >>

I gotta agree with Bertho. The thicker the ribbon, the larger the change.
How much it is pressed into the ribbon does not matter, once the ribbon is no
longer straight, the error does come into play. Only a zero thickness ribbon
would have no error.

You folks remember the way they had the cable anchored on the drum of the
Qume daisey wheel printer? How about the way they used to move floppy drive
heads with bands around a drum? all would be variations of the current theme.
