How about a belted drive to a spindle assembly instead of the
integral spindle/motor which I think you're looking for? That way
you might be able to pick up a used spindle off a VMC. Even the
small Emco F1/F1P machines used a standard 30 taper spindle. I've
seen those complete machines for less than most integral spindle
motors.
