There are some automotive sensors that are used in
airbag systems and measure easily in G forces. I think
they are fast enough to do some vibration work. I believe
that Digi-key has them. It seems they were in the $30
dollar range. The App Sheets available with them gave
several applications and I think there was a development
kit in the $100 plus price range. Motorola might have been
the supplier. Its been a while since I looked into it. The
sensors have been incorporated into inexpensive meters
for Auto Enthusiast. While measuring acceleration, they
are sold as dynamometers too.

I'm doing an engineering project setting up a production line for a
small aircraft company in Quebec - It includes some CNC equipment and
I need to locate or build an inexpensive accelerometer and digital
recorder to measure vibration and shock - My knowledge of this area is
so old that I'm sure it's out of date technically - Any suggestions on
an inexpensive approach using an
accelerometer/interface/computer/software approach that I could build
myself or purchase at a reasonable (read cheap) price? -
On another topic - Hope to see as many of you as possible at the NAMES
show in Detroit again this year - The NAMES folks are attempting to
get us more space for CNC and also to move our area closer to the
seminar rooms - Two seminars again, one on Saturday and one on Sunday
-
If you want me to reserve space for you at NAMES please contact me off
list and I will keep a log of those participating to be published to
this group later -
