Yes, maybe. Most DRO readout boxes have VERY slow update rates.
The glass scales used in many of the older DRO systems are capable
of rapid readout, it is only the display boxes that limit the rate. SO,
those DRO scales could be used as encoders for a CNC motion control
system.
The one-piece units that are essentially digital calipers without jaws
won't work for the readout rate reason.

The computer would give the position display. The readout box would
generally not be used at all.
