Nothing silly about it at all. If you have limited space & already have a
CNC mill available, it makes perfect sense to do it this way rather than
cluttering up your workshop with yet more stuff. If you are running DeskCNC
the trace isolation S/W is built into the package so using it, rather than
messing with lightbox, reagents, masks...etc., is a no-brainer. I will
grant you that if you are making PCBs that have densly packed, fine tracks,
there is no real alternative to using photo etch, but you can get a great
deal done very easily with the right CNC setup.
