TurboCNC 3 or 4, or EMC, and IM1007I2 and the serial port

Has anyone modified TurboCNC or EMC to use the serial port to
talk with IM1007I2 drives (or any other serial-interface drives)?
Or does anyone have any IM1007's that they'd like to swap
for IM1007I2's?
I bought some IM1007I2 drives on ebay.
They are in the mail, and I should get them next week.
Or the week after - air mail from the USA to Canada
sometimes takes 2-3 weeks longer than 4-10 days.
When I first did a literature search, I found the manual
for the IM1007, and the IM1007 takes step+direction signals, and
are comparable in performance to Gecko's. I thought "woo hoo!".

The IM1007 manual listed the IM1007I2 is a option,
but didn't explain how different the IM1007I2 was
from the stock IM1007.
After I paid for them them, I found the IM1007I manual.
The IM1007I2 is a lot more interesting than an IM1007,
but I'll have to communicate with it using the serial port.

I was wondering why I got such a really good deal
on stepper motors+stepper motor drives... If I ignore
the drives, I still got an ok deal on the stepper motors.
However I don't want to just set the drives aside.
If I add support for these drives to either EMC or TurboCNC,
then I'll be able to control the drives under Windows without
losing steps.
