varicad under (shudder) windows and Redhat 9. It's pretty good,
infinitely better than any of the 3D opensource editors in their
current state. 3D editing is fairly simple. Oddly, 2D is more
difficult for me at this point but I haven't spent much time at it yet.
One thing that is missing is the ability to import STEP and/or IGES
3D models. This is frustrating for me because I'd like to write
scripts to generate models of pulleys, gears and other library
components. Varicad can export both of these formats. Unfortunately
varicad stores 3D models in a proprietary binary format.
I haven't discovered any sort of macro scripting capability (yet).
Lacking too is CAM capabilities for toolpath computations.
