Hmmm...
This thread got me to thinking after somebody mentioned an encoder wheel
running on a "thick drill rod". My machine runs on 30 mm linear
bearings. Although I can't imagine wrapping those 30 mm diameter rods
around an encoder wheel I can see running the encoder wheels directly on
the rods. I could even build a housing with wipers without too much
difficulty. It could run between the two linear bearings where it is
well protected from most of the swarf and other trash.
Whatcha think?
