Just remember you can't make a jig bore out of a knee mill with a dro. 1
micron is really pushing the envelope.

Time for the nomex suit. - I was under the impression that 10 microns was a
yardstick. That aside, surely the higher the resolution of the scales, the
closer you can get in terms of machining tolerance ?
My mill will work down to 5 microns, yet overall accuracy is more like 20
microns. If I move to 1 micron scales at a reasonable cost, then a 5 micron
tolerance should be attainable.
When laser inferometers become affordable, then we can move to sub micron
accuracies :-}
