Hello Tim
The problem with your transf. is that the sec. volts of 120
will result in a dc of ~ 1.4 times higher i.e. 165 V. You therefore need to
reduce the volts which is easier said than done. One way is to wind counter
turns around the core in series with the 110 V winding , that is if you can
get at the core. For a transformer of that size you will need about
1 turn per volt or two, 20 to 40 counter turns. Make sure the wire is about
the same area as the original although it
can be stranded with plastic insulation, easier to wind.
