CNC Mini Lathe E Stop

I am just completing the enclosure for my CNC'd 7x12, and would like
to use the existing Lathe controller's E stop switch to also signal
an E Stop to TurboCNC (5VDC Logic signal), and to cut 35VDC to the
Stepper controller.
I see this is a two pole contactor, and that both poles are used, one
switching Line and one neutral. Is this reduntant method standard for
E stop?
Can I just use one contactor for one of the AC lines, and use the
other for the DC to the CNC Driver and logic signal?
