Emco V8 lathe question

Hi

New to group and CNC, although I've owned a computer and Myford ML7
for years. UK based. I ordered a new Emco Compact V8 (about the size
of the ML7) with 2 axis CNC, delivered about 3 weeks ago, because I
wanted a turnkey package rather than try to convert the ML7. But it
doesn't work - the dongled software - PCLathe v3 does not see my
computer, so won't drive the steppers. OK, have tried usual things
and will continue to scream at supplier (a supplied utulity,
syncutil, *does* drive the lathe by the arrow keys so know it is
dongle problem - had 2 and neither work!) - but PCLathe looks a bit
tacky and unfriendly. Decided to try other software - and here is
real problem!

I have almost NO information about this lathe! The controller board
has no markings, nor do the steppers, no technical manual - nothing!

Can anyone help with any information at all? Suggest any software?
(Assume I will also ask supplier!)

Any help or advice really gratefully received!
