Hi Mike,
There are many free packages out there so you dont have to go spend a ton
of money until your well versed on the direction you want to go w/ CNC. I
would advise not jumping into an expensive package just yet, as I've
wasted money on one before... Some features were just never used...
There are Windows packages out there (free to $20 and $200 bucks) and if
your familiar with Linux/Unix there are free open source packages that are
full blown.

Go down to the commercial section and look for the cheapest one to start.
There are some good people that support these packages and can help you
get started.

Also, if your into Linux there is some nifty software out there at this
site: http://www.linuxcnc.org/
