D & M Computing Cnc Lathe

Hi to all. Any and all help would be appreciated. I have a chance to
pich up a D & M Computing Cnc Lathe. It is minus the computer. I
notice that it is a serial interface and not parellel. My questions
is. Can the existing steppers be controlled with one of the new
unipolar chopper drives or does the whole system have to be removed
and replaced? I'm looking for the shortest time and money solution.
