Tad,
Just for your information, I converted my mini lathe to CNC earlier this
year. I am using 187 oz/in motor on the Z axis with 2:1 reduction and a 147
oz/in motor on the X axis with 1.6:1 reduction. I can run it at better than
30 IPM for rapids but choose not to run that fast. I am using a PMDX Motion
Management System for drivers, 35 Volts at 2 amps for each motor, Mach2 for
the control program and a 400MHz PC to run it. If you have the lathe
properly adjusted you should be pleased with the results. There are
pictures at http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/7x24Mini-LatheCNC/lst in
the "John's 7x24 Stretch" folder. If you have any questions plead feel free
to ask.
The lathe will be at Iron Fever next month, making chips.
