I expect that such stuff is out there, but it probably wouldn't do real well
in a noisy environment like a shop might tend to be...

I'd be rather surprised if "black box" (based in Pittsburgh, I think?) didn't
have something like this available -- they had darn near anything else I
could think of for interconnecting stuff, though they were on the pricey
side.
