Most mail servers, if they run into a "soft" problem (like, the server
isn't responding at the moment, as opposed to a "hard" error, like
the server name is doesn't work at all) sending a note, simply hold
on to it and retry periodically. Every hour, say, for a couple of days or
some such. This is good. Like in cases where your ISP takes down
it's mail server for maintenence at 3am. You'll never miss a piece of
mail. It'll just be delayed.
Yahoo, on the other hand sends tons and tons of E-mail all over the
place and it's *very* unforgiving. One glicth, hichough or problem,
"soft" or not, and you get shut off immediatly, only to have to turn
yourself back on manually.
Sometimes I go weeks with no problem. Sometimes I get shut off daily
or, once, a couple of times in one day. But it seems to depend on what the
ol' ISP is doing. And, to some extent, how much traffic a group is having
at odd hours, like 3am when IPS are likely to be doing maintenence.
Or so it seems to me.
Hope that helps,
Jeff
