Hi Pat,

My design covers the mechanical portion of the conversion process.
My design is easy to implement and does not remove any of the
machines current usefulness. The machine will retain its manual
function while gaining a computer control function as well. I
provide information about ball screws and plain lead screws and allow
the builder to choose which option they want. I provide source
suggestions for both types of screws. My plans call out for a lead
screw (either ball or plain) for the Z axis. The X & Y axis will use
their factory equipped screws.

For motors, controller and software I list several that I have either
used myself and liked or one that is worth mentioning. I again,
allow the builder to select which option they want for their
machine. There are many sources for motors, controllers and
software. There are few sources for kits or plans to help you bolt
those motors on to the machine in an efficient and practical way.

The mill in the pictures on my web page is using a Stepper World FET3
control board, three 150 oz/in nema 23 steppers and is being
controlled My'T'Mill software. The mill's rapid speeds are 30 in the
X & Y and 60 in the Z.

Best regards,

Ron Steele
