I'm sure you are about to get a lot of help here from others more
experienced than me. Geckos are hard to beat. You can go to thier
site or the Yahoo Gecko group for more info but most of the problems
come from incorrect wiring, not the design. Seems that is the case
with a lot of drives, not just Geckos. Mariss, designer of the Gecko
is designing a new drive to combat this problem. As for the question
of only using 2 of the 4 windings, that depends on what motors you
have, unipolar, or bipolar and how you have them wired. Bipolar
Parallel and Bipolar series use all the windings, Bipolar Half
winding only uses two.
